Fantastic winter fly fishing for trophy trout on the San Juan River Quality Waters and the Animas River near Durango Colorado. Animas Valley Anglers offers year-round professionally guided float and wade fly fishing trips on all the great waters of the Southwest including the famous San Juan below Navajo Dam, Animas, Rio Grande, Dolores, Pine, Florida, Piedra, mountain streams and regional lakes. Beginners to experts welcome.

The Animas is fishing well with small midge pupas and caddis nymphs fished deep. Warm winter temps have put the fish on the bite! The Animas River is a year-round fishery that flows from Silverton down-stream through Durango Colorado. AvA offers wade and float-fishing trips on over 70 miles of the Animas including the Gold Medal section, private waters, head-waters and the upper Animas Canyon via historic train.

The San Juan is fishing well below Navajo Dam for trophy rainbow and brown trout. San Juan flows are 468 cfs with trout eating midges, BWOs and junk patterns. The San Juan is our most consistent fishery that fishes well all year. AvA offer year-round float and wade trips on all three sections of the Juan. Learn dry, nymph and streamer techniques from one of our friendly, professional and licensed guides.

The Rio is low, cold and iced over in most spots. Season opens April 2010. The Rio Grande offers dry fly fishing you would have to experience to believe. AvA offers miles and miles of float fishing near Creede Colorado and down-stream through South Fork Colorado. The Rio is one of Colorado's premier Gold Medal fisheries and in the TOP 5 of our most popular trips. Drop us a line for guide availibility and booking info.

Root Pond is iced over and will open in March 2010.

Root Pond trout are some of the strongest trout in the region. Enjoy sight-fishing midges, cali beatis, hoppers and damsel dries to monster trophy rainbows from the comfort of a drift boat. Beginners and veterans alike have discovered Root Pond to be a great way to spend the day.

The upper San Juan is low, cold and iced over in most spots from the head-waters downstream through Pagosa Springs. The Upper San Juan has a strong trout population and stunning scenery. AvA guided float trips are available when flows allow. Our season on the upper will start March 2010.

The mountain streams fish very well in late spring, summer and fall months. Alpine creeks offer the fly fisherman endless opportunities to cast fluffy dries and beaded nymphs to pretty trout in our most scenic areas of the Southwest. AvA offers numerous high country fishing adventures for any ability level. Easy walks, moderate hikes or big adventure miles into the wilderness are all available.

The Dolores, flowing out from McPhee Reservour, quietly winds through a wild canyon full of deer, rattlesnakes and tall pines. The "D" is also home to a small handfull of technical trout. The "D" is a great stream to test your angling skills, but do not expect big numbers of fish to the fly. The Dolores above the dam is also fishable in the summer and fall. The Dolores is currently cold and iced-over in most sections.
