Skeena
River wild steelhead and salmon are in grave danger of
extinction if fish farms are introduced on the coast
of British Columbia
High
Alert!
The
Danger: Fish Farms (Aquaculture)
Wild
steelhead and salmon are threatened by the introduction of
commercial
fish farms at the mouth of the Skeena and Pacific Ocean in north-central
BC. Ecological, economic and cultural impacts from these toxic
and vile farms
would destroy
wild stocks
of
steelhead and
salmon
as well as destroy communities that are already economically
fragile. Steelhead, salmon and forage fish like oolichan could
be wiped out in a short amount of time once fish farms are in
place. Farmed salmon are downright nasty; from how they are raised
to the dyes
and
antibiotics
that
are
placed
in
their flesh.
Please make sure not to support farmed salmon at your local supermarket
and
restaurants.
Ask for wild salmon
before you order. Click the links for more info. Please get involved.

Upper
Skeena
headwaters in north-central BC are in the crosshairs for coalbed
methane and open pit coal mines
High
Alert!
Danger: Coalbed methane (CBM)
and open pit coal mines
The
upper Skeena headwaters is the life force to the entire Skeena
system. The Skeena along with all her tributaries, like the
Babine, Kispiox, Bulkley and Copper to name just a few, are
home to
a vast array of creatures. Salmon, steelhead, white suckers,
white
fish,
dace,
trout, bull trout, char, eagles, water fowl, song birds,
migratory birds, otters, mountain goats, deer, moose, beavers,
cougars, black and brown bears live in this vast wilderness.
The introduction of roads, well sites, well heads will lead
to erosion, pollution and the quick destruction of this fragile
wilderness. Open pit coal mines are also proposed for this
area. Economic and cultural impacts also need to be addressed.
The
citizens of Telkwa and Smithers are working hard to keep CBM
and open pit coal mines out of the region. This will take a
big fight. Click the links for more info. Please get involved.
